The House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee recently hosted its first congressional hearing on public transportation and infrastructure investments in the United States. In advance of the hearing, the leaders of the Great Lakes Metro Chambers Coalition (GLMCC) shared a letter with Chairman Peter DeFazio and the committee members on the core infrastructure priorities that were important to the Great Lakes region. GLMCC leaders stated, “As the nation’s manufacturing and logistics powerhouse, these transportation investments are particularly important to the Great Lakes region and directly impact the national economy.” Key investments highlighted by the coalition include direct federal spending for transportation and infrastructure projects in the Great Lakes, support for the Soo Locks, Great Lakes support in the Water Resources and Development Act, and full use of the Harbor Maintenance Tax.
GCP is a founding member of GLMCC. Since 2008, this collective of chambers across the Great Lake region has been a leading voice on federal policy issues.
